Adding a bathroom to a small camper can be as easy or complicated as you want to make it. There are options for adding a camping toilet, a compost toilet or a full bath complete with running water and a shower.
Camping Toilet

You can purchase a camping toilet in the sporting goods sections of many department stores or through online retailers. Basically, these toilets are little more than a bucket with a toilet seat and a lid. Any semi-private area can become your bathroom. Disposal can be a little tricky, as you must find someplace such as an RV dump station to clean out the toilet when the odor becomes more than you can stand.

The next option, still relatively simple, is to pick up a compost toilet. These are similar to camping toilets except they tend to hold more waste and come with chemicals which help to break down and compost the waste. Though they're pretty simple, they require some understanding of composting in order to avoid troubles and frightful odors.

A complete running water system is the most complicated of all the options, but it will reward you with days or weeks of use between cleanings. The most basic system will consist of a fresh water tank, pump, bathroom fixtures and a "gray water" tank. The gray water tank is the storage area for the waste material, which must be emptied into an RV dump station when it becomes full. The larger the tanks you install for fresh water and gray water, the longer you can go between trips to the RV dump. However, you will also need a sturdier camper and/or larger vehicle to pull the additional weight of full tanks.
