Design A Bedroom For Two Girls

Designing a room for two girls means looking for ways to create separate spaces within one unified decor scheme. Whether you are looking for an idea for twins, sisters of similar ages or siblings who are spaced farther apart, a shared room can be individualized to account for each of the girls' special interests and distinct tastes. Using furniture, designer color palettes and decorative accents can help you to make the most of a feminine room for two.

Instructions

1. Invite the two girls to help make some of the design decisions. Girls who are in preschool and older can give their opinions on colors, furniture styles, accents and personal touches. Some girls may want a unified space, while others may want more distinct areas. Ask each girl for her opinion. Provide the children with color chips and pictures of furniture ideas.

2. Select a unifying paint color, or divide the room with a two-toned look. Separate the space visually with complimenting colors, a funky eclectic mix of brights or shades of the same hue. Make a central division at the same point on two opposite walls with painter's tape. Roll one color on one half. Allow time to dry and re-coat. Remove the tape after the paint is fully dry. Re-tape along the border so that the two halves directly meet. Paint the other half and re-coat.

3. Give each girl her own distinct area rug. Even if the room is carpeted, place color coordinating rugs in the center or under the bed area of each girl's space.

4. Create separate spaces or zones with the furniture. If you are using a two-toned approach, place one girl's furniture in one half and the other girl's on the other side. Place each girl's bed against a wall with as much space separating them as possible. Add in the other furniture, such as a dresser and night stand for each girl, near to her bed.

5. Add individual accents for each of the girls. Include posters, photos of friends or even a decorative lampshade that features a favorite color or print.
