Bathroom Caulk Colors

Caulking must match or complement tile and fixture colors.

The color scheme of the bathroom is determined by a number of components, including tiles, wall paint, fixtures and even the waterproof caulking that helps protect walls against rust and mildew. This caulk is a visible part of the bathroom, and comes in several colors and shades to fit the color scheme.

Gray

A popular shade for grout, gray also is a popular shade for caulking since it appears so closely next to grout and tile. Caulking comes in several shades similar to grout and varies by manufacturer. Color Fast caulk features light shades, such as Platinum and Arctic Ice, but also darker shades, such as Concord Grape, Winter Gray and the near black Charcoal. Some bathroom fixture companies, such as Kohler, make shades to match their products exactly. The Kohler shade of gray is called Ice Grey.

White

Although difficult to keep clean, white is another popular color for the bathroom and bathroom caulk. Pure whites, such as Kohler's White or Color Fast's Bright White, match white color grout completely as well as complementing the colors of bathroom fixtures. Easier to keep clean, many homeowners choose off-white colors, such as DAP's Antique White or Kohler's Biscuit.

Brown

A few shades darker than off-white, brown caulking matches well a tan or brown bathroom color scheme, but can appear perpetually dirty in white bathrooms. Shades of brown caulking include Almond and Innocent Blush from Kohler; Sable Brown, Haystack and Sahara Tan from Color Fast; and Cedar Tan and Brown from DAP.

Green

Although not as common as white or gray, green color grout matches several green color tiles that are popular in bathrooms. North Bay Leaf and Moss from Color Fast are medium and muted greens, while Timberline from Kohler represents a darker and warmer tone.

Red

Red bathrooms are rare, but some manufacturers do make red bathroom caulking for specialty colored bathrooms. Muted reds, such as Kohler's Wild Rose and Color Fast's Driftwood, are more common, but Color Fast's Lipstick provide a more vibrant option.

Blue

This cool color complements muted shades, such as gray, as well as matching blue tile and fixtures. Blue caulk includes shades, such as Ocean Blue and Captain's Blue from Color Fast. Like red, blue caulking is not as common as white or gray.

Clear

DAP offers a clear caulking that blends with most color tile grout and fixture. This caulking is colorless and, therefore, matches any bathroom color scheme.
