Decorate A Hollywood Regency Dining Room

Hollywood Regency style borrows from and modernizes the glamor of movie sets from the 1930s and 40s. The style incorporates lots of reflective surfaces such as mirrors and gold or silver paint, lacquered furniture and jewel-toned accent colors against a color palette of beige, silver, gray, black or white. It exudes an air of opulence and glamor. If you want to make your dinner guests feel like they are being treated in high style, there is no better decor to do that in.

Instructions

Putting It All Together

1. Clear out the room and prepare for painting. Tape around windows and baseboards. Paint room and allow to dry.

2. Prepare wall opposite the room opening for wallpaper installation. Apply wallpaper to the wall opposite the room opening.

3. Remove the old ceiling fixture and replace it with the chandelier. Replace regular wall switch with the dimmer switch.

4. Attach the curtain rod just beneath the top of the wall above the window. Hang curtains on rod. If you have a nice view of a private garden or vista, you can position the curtains along each side of the window. If your view is less than ideal, pull the curtain across the entire window.

5. Place your furniture symmetrically within the room. Position the table and chairs so that the center of the table is directly underneath the chandelier. Center the side table on the wall that is opposite the entrance to the room.

6. Hang the mirror centered above the side table, and approximately 6 inches above the tabletop. Place the tray with glasses on top of the side table and centered beneath the mirror. Put the vase on one side of the tray and the lamp on the other side.

7. Add additional decorative elements with restraint. Hang a few small pictures on the long wall opposite the window. Place a few tall potted plants in the corners of the room. Cover the table with a linen tablecloth. Place a row of simple candles down the middle. Add a ceramic dog or lion figure next to one of the plants. Add an Oriental or animal print rug under the table. Make it personal and your guests will feel special.
