Minimalist design is simple.
For those who don't like any clutter in a space and choose to have a limited color palette or furniture design, minimalist decor is the way to go. A minimalist interior decorating style is about taking everything out of a room that is not essential to the space, usually leaving the bed, dresser or nightstand. While a minimalist style uses very little in a room, a warm and comfortable ambiance is created through using color and one or two statement artwork pieces.
Instructions
1. Take everything out of the room that constitutes as clutter, including knick-knacks on the dresser or nightstand. If you have furniture in the room that isn't ever used, such as a chair, take it out. A minimalist bedroom usually contains only the bed, nightstand and dresser, if there is no closet space.
2. Paint the room white for a true minimalist feel or choose an earth tone. Ideal colors in a minimalist space are blue, white, yellow, brown or charcoal gray.
3. Change out furniture for basic designs with little to no carvings, embossing or accents designs. Choose a simple platform bed, sleek dresser or nightstand to use in the room. If the room is small, place clear, acrylic side tables on either side of the bed. Using clear furniture in the room allows the eye to visually wander about the space easily.
4. Hang one large abstract artwork above the bed, and leave the rest of the walls bare. Choose artwork that complements any other colors in the room, such as the bedding or window treatments.
5. Cover the windows with solid-colored panels or use wood shades. Roman shades that pull down over a window are also simple and effective at blocking out light.
6. Accessorize sparingly. Place two lamps on either side of the bed that are sleek and have minimal design. Use solid colored sheets and comforter on the bed and cover a bare floor with a solid-colored rug that complements the color palette of the room.
