Choose A Towel Warmer For Your Bathroom Fixtures

Towel warmers come in finishes to match your bathroom fixtures.

A towel warmer was a luxury item at one time, but many homeowners are including these appliances in bathroom remodeling projects today. With their increase in popularity, bathroom towel warmers are available in a number of sizes, power sources and styles. The towel warmer fixture may be small enough to keep one towel cozy and warm for the next user, or the towel heater may be large enough to accommodate enough towels for the entire family.

Instructions

1. Determine the power source of your towel warmer. Electric models plug in to available ground fault circuit interrupter, or GFCI, outlets in the bathroom. It's also possible to find models that hardwire into the house's electrical system. Hydronic models connect into the house's heat source and operate as a part of the furnace system. Hydronic models are efficient to operate, but the installation costs may be prohibitive for some homeowners.

2. Decide if you want your towel warmer to have an on/off switch or if you want it always to be on. If your model turns off, you have to wait for it to warm the towels. Constant-on models take more energy but warm towels are always waiting for you. A hard-wired towel heater with a switch on the wall costs more to install as well.

3. Locate the best spot for your towel heater. Depending on the model, you can mount the unit on the wall or attach it to the floor. Some models are free-standing. There are even space-saving models that attach to the hinge pins of the bathroom door.

4. Choose a model that matches or complements your bathroom fixtures. Warmers are available in various metal finishes, wood and glass.

5. Select models that have the bars spaced closely together. This makes the unit more efficient at heating the towels and not the air around the towels.

6. Find a model that is sturdy. If it's a free-standing model, look for legs spaced far enough apart to prevent the warmer from easily tipping over. The towel bars should be solid enough to bear the weight of damp towels.
