To preserve your newly refinished dining room and protect your children, follow the steps outlined in this article.
Maintaining a safe, hazard-free environment for your children, whether they are infants, toddlers or school-aged, is of the utmost importance to you as a parent. Also, as most parents know, children can be rough on their surroundings. If you have recently had your dining room refinished you will want to ensure that it is both safe from, and safe for, your little ones. Through strategic placement of childproofing devices and careful storage of valuables, you can put your mind at ease while enjoying your new dining room.
Instructions
1. Stow away all fine china, silver utensils, wine glasses and other expensive or valuable dining equipment in your china cabinet or cupboards.
2. Clear your dining room table of any centerpieces made from glass or that are valuable or irreplaceable, such as vases or sculptures. Put these in a safe place until you use your dining room for a special dinner or celebration.
3. Unplug any lamps or decorative lighting when the dining room is not in use. Place the lamps upon a high shelf or stow them in a cupboard if there is enough room. If you light candles for a dinner occasion, extinguish them promptly afterward.
4. Install child safety gates at all entrances to the dining room. If your dining room is accessed through a sliding door, close and lock it when the room is not being used. These barriers will keep children and all associated mess --- coloring crayons, food smears and juice spills --- out of
5. Fit thick plastic covers over each wall outlet to prevent the danger of electrical shock. Install rubber or thick foam bumpers over any obvious corners and edges, such as chair arm rests, table tops and cabinet siding. Place sturdy latches or locking mechanisms over all low cupboards or cabinet doors to prevent children from accessing stowed dishes, glasses and utensils.
