Teenagers Bedroom Paint Ideas With Stars

Incorporate stars into a distinct bedroom design for teens.

A teenager's bedroom should not only serve as a retreat for sleep and relaxation; it should also provide a testament to a teen's individual style and interests. A creative bedroom theme like stars allows teens to transform a simple bedroom into a bold and distinct living space. Incorporate stars into wall and ceiling paint for a customized bedroom design that reflects your teen's personal style.

Galaxy Theme

Transform a bedroom into a galactic escape with a galaxy star theme. Though it may seem fitting, black or very dark blue walls make a room seem smaller. Instead select one or two accent walls to paint a dark hue, and leave the other walls a neutral white or lighter shade of blue or gray. After the paint has dried, use white or neon yellow paint to create star patterns on the dark walls. Though freehand drawing is perfectly suitable, consider following star patterns outlined on a constellation map for a truly galactic experience. If you want to avoid dark walls altogether, use glow-in-the-dark paint to create star patterns that are only visible when the lights are turned off. Glow-in-the-dark star patterns are especially effective on ceilings; create the night sky above your bed by painting glow-in-the-dark constellations onto the ceiling. Add several stars with tails to mimic the appearance of a shooting star.

Rock Stars

If you are looking for more glamorous stars, consider painting large stars in silver, red or black paint to imitate a Hollywood or rock star theme. For a rocker theme, cut out several large stars from a section of butcher block paper; tape the paper, not the cutouts, onto the wall. Cover any extra wall space with additional paper or a painter's drop cloth. Pour several colors of paint onto large paper plates; dip a brush into one plate, and flick the brush at the wall so that the paint splatters onto the canvas. Continue splatter painting with various colors until most of the stars are filled with splatters; when you remove the paper, only the splatter paint stars remain on the wall. For a more controlled star theme, consider using a projector to trace a wall-size star onto the space behind the bed. Paint the star silver for a classic Hollywood look, or opt for hot pink or red for a more dramatic appearance.

Whimsical Stars

Even teenagers appreciate a bit of whimsy when it comes to bedroom decor. Incorporate stars into a fantastical theme by painting a cascade of multicolored stars onto an accent wall. A stream of stars that extends into the wall from the bottom corner gives the image of a shooting star, while a sprinkling of stars falling from the ceiling offers a more playful atmosphere. Use stars of various sizes and colors for the most whimsical effects; choose a color palette like pastel pinks and lavenders or bold reds and oranges for the most cohesive look. Add a feminine touch by dusting over the tacky paint with a bit of glitter powder or dust; add glitter effects after stars have dried by cutting out star-shaped sections of sparkly contact paper and adhering them to dry stars.
