Install Bathroom Sink Tops

Whether you are remodeling a bathroom or building a new bathroom, changing the counter top on the vanity can add a new look to the bathroom, even if you don't change the vanity itself. As a do-it-yourself job, this can be done by almost anyone.

Instructions

1. Measure the vanity top from side to side (width) and front to back (depth). Add one inch on each measurement to determine the counter top size. For example, if your vanity top is 30 inches wide by 18 inches deep, you need a counter top that is 31 inches wide by 19 inches deep.

2. Turn the water to the sink off by tightening the water valves on the hot and cold water lines. Loosen and remove the hardware under the sink. Place a bucket under the pipes before disconnecting them to ensure that the bathroom doesn't flood. Remove the counter top from the vanity.

3. Install the fixtures into the sink by placing them on top of the sink with the faucet pipe going through the center hole. The cold water line should go through the right hole and the hot water line through the left.

4. Line the top edge of the vanity with a bead of caulk. This is what will hold the counter top securely on the vanity. Line the back of the counter top where it will contact the wall with a bead of caulk.

5. Place the counter top onto the vanity. Connect the plumbing lines by either screwing in the water lines and drainpipe or by pushing them in. The way you do this is dependent upon the type of fixtures and lines you have.

6. Allow the counter top to sit undisturbed for at least 12 hours. This will give the caulk time to set. Line the edges of the counter top where they meet with the wall with caulk or grout, if desired.
