Diy Dining Booth

A dining booth consists of a bench seating.

You can make a dining booth for your kitchen to create a sitting area or to add a design element to your home. The dining booth requires building a frame that can then be covered with lightweight panels of medium density fiberboard (MDF). To do this, you need to determine how big to build the dining booth based on where it will be located. The dining booth should be built big enough to seat two to three people.

Instructions

Cut Wood for Frame

1. Measure a 2-by-4 board to 72 inches. Make a cut mark with the pencil and cut the 2-by-4 board with the circular saw. Repeat this step and cut three 72-inch boards.

2. Measure and cut a 2-by-4 board to 12½-inches. Repeat this step and cut a second 12½-inch piece.

3. Measure and cut another 2-by-4 board to 8½ inches. Repeat this step and cut a second 8½-inch piece.

4. Measure and cut two 2-by-4 boards to 44 inches.

Assemble the Seat Frame

5. Place the two 72-inch and two 12½-inch boards together in the shape of a rectangle.

6. Use the power drill to drill two pilot holes into each corner where two boards meet. Apply wood glue to the boards and then secure them with screws. Insert the screws into the pilot holes and tighten them with the power drill.

7. Place the remaining 72-inch boards and the 8½-inch boards together in the shape of a rectangle. Set these boards flat.

8. Measure and cut four 15-inch pieces from a 2-by-4 board. Cut with the circular saw. Attach a piece at each corner of the rectangle frame you made in step 7. Apply wood glue to the boards, and then secure them with screws.

9. Set the rectangle frame you made in step 1 on top of the 15-inch 2-by-4 boards. Secure the boards with wood glue and screws. This is the completed base for the dining booth.

Attach MDF to Frame

10. Measure and cut three pieces of MDF that measure 20 inches by 72 inches. Measure and cut another piece of MDF that measures 24 inches by 72 inches.

11. Using screws, attach two of the 20-inch by 72-inch pieces of MDF to the back and front of the frame.

12. Attach the two 44-inch 2-by-4 boards to each end of the back of the frame. These will be the supports for the backrest. Set the 20-inch by 72-inch piece of MDF on the two supports and secure it with screws.

13. Place the remaining 20-inch by 72-inch piece of MDF on the top of the frame. Using screws, secure a piano hinge to the piece of MDF and to the edge of the frame.
