This is how a faucet should look-no leaks.
When a Moen faucet leaks usually the problem is a bad cartridge. Over time and with use a cartridge can become corroded and worn making it not function properly and thus causing leakage. Fixing this problem is fairly straightforward and even for the novice should take less than an hour. The homeowner can save hundreds of dollars replacing a Moen faucet cartridge themselves over hiring a plumber to do the job.
Instructions
1. Shut the water off to the faucet. If the faucet has its own shut offs located under the sink, use them. Otherwise the water must be shut off using the main water shut off for the entire house.
2. Remove the cap button or the helmet style cap which will expose a screw. Unscrew the screw and remove the the collar by unscrewing it; if the faucet has a dome, snap it up and off. There may also be a washer that may need to be removed.
3. Remove the horseshoe shaped retainer clip which holds the cartridge in place. This retainer clip should just slide out.
4. Turn the cartridge 90 degrees to the left and back again using the tool that came in the kit specifically designed for this job. Use a pair of pliers to pull the cartridge out of the faucet body.
5. Install the new cartridge with the tabs pointing to 6 o'clock and 12 o'clock. The hole on the cartridge should point to 6 o'clock on a kitchen or bath faucet and point downward on a tub and shower unit.
6. Reassemble the faucet the same way it came apart and turn the water back on.
