Diy Bedroom Decorations

An assortment of throw pillows can be used to soften a bedroom.

Your bedroom should provide a calming atmosphere that allows you to rest and rejuvenate at the end of each day. If you see your bedroom space as cluttered or thrown together, you may feel more frustrated than tranquil. Fortunately, a few DIY touches can transform this area with minimal expense. Putting together these projects yourself will also give you complete control over the colors, patterns and styles that are used throughout the room. Rather than settling for "pretty close" with store-bought pieces, you can add personal touches that are just right.

Instructions

1. Soften up your sleeping space with new pillows. Select a fabric that matches your overall decor and stitch together covers for existing pillows or to throw onto a pillow form. Two simple squares of fabric are all you need for a basic cover. Add a little flair with stripes of alternating colors, piping along the edges or ribbon accents stitched on the pillows. A new set of handmade pillowcases can also dress up your sheets without requiring you to buy a whole new set.

2. Add mood lighting to the room for a more relaxing feel. Install a dimmer switch on overhead lights to provide the option of a darker space. Use task lighting, such as bedside reading lamps, to give a brighter glow to specific areas. Add new lampshades to existing light features or cover the existing ones with fabric for an updated look.

3. Frame your favorite photos or artwork for decorative wall hangings that perfectly match your style. Convert sentimental family shots to black and white or sepia tones for a softer look. If you can't find artwork to fit your decor, cut out a piece of fabric in the shape of one or more letters to spell out an inspirational word such as "dream" or for use as a simple monogram. Mount your work on card stock and frame.

4. Purchase an assortment of baskets at your local craft or Goodwill store. Line these with your favorite fabric; secure the fabric around the brims with ribbon. Place the baskets on bookshelves, nightstands and anywhere else that clutter has taken hold. These baskets provide you with a quick and decorative way to organize magazines, toiletries and anything else that's taking up space in your bedroom. Keep a miscellaneous basket on hand for days when you don't have time to sort but still crave the clean look of clutter-free surfaces.
