Design A Relaxing Small Bedroom With A Desk & Computer

A relaxing environment is a must in a bedroom or office where sleeping and/or working are the primary functions. Creating a relaxing bedroom that has only a bed, desk and computer is relatively simple, but it's important to understand the design elements that evoke an active energy and the ones that evoke a peaceful energy so you can set out to design the room with those factors in mind. The design of a truly relaxing room does not lie in just one element, but in the coming together of all of the design elements to achieve a peaceful environment, according to the New House of Art. At the end of the day, it's about what relaxes you.

1. Paint the room with light, cool colors. Light greens, light blues and light grays are all colors that promote peaceful energy. Warm colors such as red, dark yellow and orange tend to stir an active energy, so keep your paint to cool and serene colors.

2. Place matching wood furniture pieces in the room. Dark, rich wood beds and desks are great relaxing furniture. Eliminate any unneeded furniture. If it fits the design, keep it, but if you're simply finding a place for it, get rid of it, according to Terry's Fabrics. Clutter and especially unnecessary furniture pieces do not belong in this relaxing bedroom.

3. Eliminate the use of overhead and/or florescent lighting, and add ambient, aesthetic lighting. Alternative lighting will greatly influence the mood of the room. The goal is to achieve lighting that both performs a function and serves as decoration. Lamps with shades, candles and desk lamps are solid options.

4. Install wood blinds and soft, light curtains that are easy to open and don't add chaos to the room. Light-colored curtains that can be opened with just the pull of a string are a great option. There will be times when you'll want some natural lighting to illuminate the room, so it is important to have that option in the form of quality curtains and blinds.

5. Install your flooring based on personal preference. If the room is carpeted but the carpet is old and ragged, tear it up and either replace it with new cushy carpet or refinish the floor underneath the old carpet. Some people find hardwood or ceramic tiles more comforting (especially if you lay an area rug down); some people find an elegant, cushy carpet more relaxing. The ball is in your court with the floors.
