Whether your bedroom is large, small or somewhere in between, the placement of your furniture is important to make the most of the space you have. Poorly positioned furniture can make even the largest of bedrooms appear small and cramped. However, by carefully measuring and planning, you can easily ascertain the most productive use of space before you begin moving heavy furniture around.
Carpet
Carpet is a cozy choice for the bedroom, as this is where you probably spend the most time barefoot. Although there is little to be said about arranging a carpet, the type you choose is an important factor. Keep the colors light and avoid patterns to make the floor space appear larger. A plush, cut pile carpet is probably the comfiest underfoot, but it will show every mark and footprint. Natural fiber carpets such as seagrass, sisal, hemp and jute are also extremely hard-wearing, as well as being ecologically friendly, but they are not as comfortable to walk on.
Measuring and Planning
Measure the dimensions of the bedroom and draw a simple blueprint on a piece of paper. Measure the largest pieces of furniture, such as the bed, the couch and a dresser, and write down the measurements. Play around with your floor plan, experimenting with different layouts until you are happy. Ensure you carefully check your measurements in the bedroom before moving any furniture. Don't worry about smaller items such as accent or bedside tables, these can be placed after the main furniture is in position.

The bed is generally the largest item of furniture in a bedroom, and it creates a focal point upon entering the room. Avoid placing the bed under a window, as this leaves you exposed to drafts. Also avoid positioning the bed on the same wall as the door. This can prevent the door from opening fully, creating a cramped feel. In a small room, positioning the bed with one side flush against a wall will maximize floor space. If you have the space, placing the bed diagonally across a corner of the room creates a striking effect.
Secondary Furniture
If you have a TV in your bedroom, you want to be able to see it from both the bed and the couch. In this case, positioning the couch at the foot of the bed is the ideal solution. If you don't have the space, then along the wall beside the bed will also work. In a large room, create a cozy seating area by placing a small coffee table decorated with an attractive centerpiece in front of the couch. When you have the
