Download Music From Itunes Even If You Don'T Have An Ipod

You don't have to have an iPod to use iTunes.

While Apple has an advertising campaign that may make you feel left out if you don't own any of their products, you do not have to own an iPod or any Apple product to use iTunes and purchase music from the iTunes store. Developed with iPod users in mind, iTunes is also a music library that doesn't need an MP3 device connected to it to operate. Songs available on iTunes, however, are not available in an MP3 format but only in AAC format, which means you'll have to convert iTunes downloads to MP3 files before you add the songs to a non-iPod portable music player.

Uses of iTunes Without an iPod

Not just for purchasing and downloading music and video, iTunes is also not the only source in which to purchase content. Amazon and Rhapsody provide the same things that iTunes does for roughly the same price. However, iTunes has become a universal program because it is easy to use and update. When you download a song or upload a CD, iTunes gathers and organizes all the information so you don't have to. By sorting music by artist, album and genre, iTunes is a great way to store and organize your media. Also, if your iTunes has the Genius feature enabled, iTunes will automatically create playlists from your library and can recommend songs you may like.

Connecting a Device with iTunes

Since iTunes is an Apple product, it will only recognize Apple devices, such as iPods, iPads and iPhones. This doesn't mean, however, that you can't add songs from your iTunes library to your non-Apple device. Plug in your MP3 device and transfer songs from your iTunes library to Windows Media Player or whichever program your MP3 player is compatible with. The other player should automatically convert the AAC files to MP3 for you, but you can do this manually by opening the iTunes folder and right-clicking on the song or songs to want to convert.

Using iTunes for Things Other than Music

You can also use iTunes to purchase and rent television shows and movies. The movies you buy do not have to go to any mobile device and can simply live on your hard drive and be watched on your computer in the iTunes player. If you have a cable to connect your computer to your television, then you can watch your iTunes movies on your TV as well. You can also use iTunes to download podcasts and audiobooks, and you can share your music library within your home network.

Limits of iTunes

You are limited to a maximum of five computers with a single iTunes account. The iTunes files are also bound to their owners' libraries, so if someone tries to take some music you downloaded from iTunes and put it on a flash drive, he will be prompted for your iTunes password when he tries to open the song, or access might be denied altogether. You will see that iTunes does everything possible to prevent abuse and piracy.
